Bodega Raffy was founded in 2007 by Jean-Louis Raffy, a university professor with a passion for wine, who fell in love with a high quality wine producing area in Tupungato, Uco Valley, Mendoza. The vineyards of Bodega Raffy are located at 1250m (4000ft) above sea-level, benefiting from high sunlight intensity during the day; increasing grape colour and maturity and cooling winds during the night; preserving natural acidity and freshness of aromas. The higher the altitude the higher the ultraviolet radiation, this helps to stimulate and create richer tannins, while the inclination of the slopes improves drainage. The terroir is a wonderful combination of stony, sandy and calcareous soil, which was formed during the Quaternary era by alluvial erosions of the Andes.

Bodega Raffy can now boast Marcelo Pelleritti as their winemaker. Pelleritti has recently been awarded 100 points from Robert Parker at Chateau La Violette, along with 99 points from Chateau Le Gay 2010. He brings his incredible experience to Bodega Raffy, thus maximising the natural terroir and conditions available. The vineyard is treated sustainably, without any use of pesticides, only treated with organic products. The harvests are completed manually, with only the healthiest grapes making it into the three wines. Each wine is designed to deliver at their prespective price points, the Tursos Grand Reserve, £23 per bottle in bond, Pardus Reserve £13.83 and the Hedera £8.83. Each has been awarded gold medals in their own class and are served in the best restaurants and steakhouses around the world, such as Nobu and Cipriani, Gaucho restaurants in the UK and Catch in New York City. We source directly from the winery and can therefore offer new vintages at these exceptional prices. None of the wines have been tasted yet by major critics, however, we recently tasted them and they are a continuation of the Estate’s high quality. Moreover, the new names and labels represent the global success the Estate is experiencing.

Tursos Grande Reserve is harvested 100% manually, from 60 year old ungrafted vines at very low yields of 29 hectoliters/hectare; aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak. The name is derived from the word Scepter, the ornamented wand born by Dionysus, the God of Wine. While the 2012 is yet untasted, the 2010 recevied 91 points from the Wine Enthusiast and 17 from Jancis Robinson. Tursos Grand Reserve is priced at £100 in most restaurants and we are delighted to be able to offer it today for £29.50, including duty and VAT.

The Pardus Réserve is aged for 12 months in 100% French oak, (18% new oak) and harvested from 50 year old ungrafted vines again with small yields of 39 hectoliters/hectare. Pardus means Leopard the animal ridden by Dionysus. The 2011 Reserve was awarded 17/20 by Jancis Robinson and the value for money here is exceptional, for £18.90, one can secure this stunnning wine that punches above its weight, it is one of the finest wines available for under £20 a bottle.

Their third wine named Hedera, previously called Terroir is made from old ungrafted vines and aged for nine months in 100% French oak barrels (second use). Hedera displays the flavour profiles of the Reserve and Grande Reserve but is stylistically made to be consumed younger, yet priced today at £12.90 including Duty and VAT. It was awarded 16.5/20 in 2011 from Jancis Robinson, a stunning score for a wine at this price range. Raffy Hedera will provide pleasure now, but will improve for 4-5 years.

Hedera is the ivy crown worn by Dionysus and the symbol of prosperity, which along with Pardus (Leopard) and Tursos (Scepter) represent the new trilogy of the Raffy wines. We are delighted to be able to offer a special price of £260 IB for a 6x75cl case of each, allowing you to taste the range and enjoy the varying price points. The qualitative excellence of the Estate’s wine runs through each example designed to provide immense pleasure, perfect for barbecues, dinner parties, or just to enjoy on their own.
