Chateau Carruades de Lafite 2015
92-93 Pts JS, 89-91 Pts WA

6×75 – £650 EP

IG Wines offer a choice of bottling for en primeur orders, see below.

2015 En Primeur Expected Spring 2018

This morning Carruades de Lafite, the second wine of Lafite Rothschild, has released for £650 per case of six. This is the same price as the current trading price of the 2014, which has risen 41% since last year. The average case price for Carruades over the last 10 years is £1,700 and as such today’s release offers a 23% discount. Carruades has been a darling in Asia since 2008 and the last 12 months have seen a return to form; the average price for the last ten vintages has increased 19%. This suggests it pays to secure Carruades on first tranche release and to hold physical vintages.

In 2015, Carruades de Lafite have made their finest wine since 2009 and 2005 and Neal Martin thinks it is ‘Probably one of the most approachable deuxième vins’ awarding it 89-91 points. What this means is that at £1,300 per case of 12, the 2015 is 27% cheaper than the inferior 2006, 2005 and 2004 is also set to benefit from Carraudes recent return to demand, both form Asia and Europe. Carruades is a baby Lafite in style, quality and design; the two labels are very similar indeed. Carruades’ release today will be meet with strong demand and is a compelling release as the campaign comes to a close.

James Suckling, 92-93 Points
A silky and fine second wine of Lafite with blueberry, blackberry and flower aromas and flavors. Cedar and nuts too.

Antonio Galloni, 90-93 Points
The 2015 Carruades de Lafite is a very pretty second wine. Dark, sensual and inviting, the 2015 Carruades is super-expressive today. Graphite, plum, black cherry, lavender and licorice are all nicely delineated throughout. The higher presence of Merlot gives the Carruades lovely inner sweetness and perfume. This is very nicely done.

Neal Martin, 89-91 Points
The 2015 Carruades de Lafite is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. This has a satisfying purity on the nose: blackberry and briary, a distant, cold slate-like note just underneath, with the new oak (close to 20%) neatly subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is moderate depth to this slightly foursquare and conservative Carruades, but there is also plenty of freshness and it has an appealing, unassuming finish that is both harmonious and precise. Probably one of the most approachable deuxième vins, afford this 2-3 years in bottle before broaching.
