En Primeur Expected Spring 2018
Le Dome, one of the leading St Emilion estates, has released for £880 per case of 12. In 2015, as in most years, Le Dome has been awarded one of the highest scores with 94-96 points from the Wine Advocate. Today’s price represents an ex-London increase of 27.5% on 2014 and a euro increase of 18%. The superb 2015 Le Dome, therefore, has been released at a 56% discount to the 2010 and 32% to the 2009. Le Dome scores very well from barrel to bottle, Robert Parker initially scored Le Dome 2010 94-96 points, before increasing it to a perfect 100 from bottle, the 2009 from 95-97 to 99.
Le Dome is globally loved and the 2015 has huge potential, however, only 1,000 cases were made. Le Dome also has the privilege of possessing the highest percentage of Cabernet Franc of any leading Bordeaux wine, 80%, with the balance made up of Merlot. This only adds to its ‘stand out’ status and desirability. In 2015, the leading wines from the village of St Emilion are exceptional and collectors should be stocking up! Le Dome’s 3.5 hectares of premium, Cabernet Franc dominated vineyards are located close to Angelus and Canon. However, at £73 a bottle, remarkably it is likely to be half the price of Pavie and Angelus, despite its tiny production.
Le Dome is the benchmark wine of Jonathan Maltus who owns several estates on the Right Bank, including Chateau Teyssier. The first vintage of this Estate was in 1996 and it quickly started receiving rave reviews through the noughties, building up to a perfect score from Robert Parker in 2010. Rather like many garragiste estates in St Emilion, Le Dome does not have a cellar nor a Chateau, so all wine is vinified and aged at Chateau Teyssier. For this reason, Le Dome is actually not classified as a Grand Cru Classes, however reputation alone has quickly built the Estate up to be one of the biggest names in Bordeaux.

Neal Martin, 94-96 Points
The 2015 Le Dôme is a blend of 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot picked on October 2 and 6. It has a clean and precise bouquet, tightly wound at first, gently warming up, developing more delineation and focus. This might be a more understated Le Dôme compared to recent years, but you might argue more sophisticated. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive density, a vein of dark chocolate on the entry that is rapidly overtaken by layers of lightly spiced black fruit. The finish is tightly wound at the moment, but it will open by the time of bottling. What I like here is the fineness of the tannin, something not always exuded by Mathus’ top cuvée. It simply expresses the joys of Cabernet Franc and it should age nicely over the next 5-20 years.
James Suckling, 94-95 Points
A juicy red with walnut, berry and chocolate aromas and flavors. Full and savory. Loads of fruit and chewy tannins.
