Taittinger Prelude NV- 6×75 – £170 IB
Taittinger is one of the oldest Champagne houses, founded in 1734 by Forest Fourneaux. Taittinger produce an exceptional Grand Cru cuvee called Prelude, which is made only from grapes grown in their six Grand Cru vineyards, classified as 100% in the Champagne system. Taittinger Prelude is composed of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir and produced only using the first press, offering a blend of incredible finesse. This Prelude is made exclusively from grapes from the superb 2006 vintage a large percentage of which herald from the village Le-Mesnil-Sur-Oger famous for the fabled ‘Clos du Mesnil’ and ‘d’Ambonnay’, notorious for the great wines of Salon and Krug, which cost over £300 a bottle. As such Taittinger Prelude offers an incredible way to buy, cellar and drink, it is a Champagne with incredible finesse and structure capable of ageing for a decade.

Dom Perignon P2 1998- 3×75 – £540 IB
Dom Perignon first introduced the concept of Oenotheque back in 2000, which roughly translates as wine library. However, they have decided to change the name to reflect the rhythm of their Champagne’s three plenitudes. For Dom Perignon this Oenotheque/ Plenitude represents the epitome of their winemaking and late release prestige Champagne. P2 has an intense bouquet, with notes of honeysuckle, orange peel, lemon, wonderful notes of hazelnut and early signs of lovely mushroom flavours. The palate is incredibly vibrant and opulent with wonderful flavour definition. The finish is harmonious yet reserved, which suggests it will improve in bottle for another 40 years. Plenitude is the height of prestige Champagne and its global recognition means that it is now replacing Dom Perignon standard as the house’s most desirable Champagne, sadly quantities are minuscule.
