IG Wines – Segla 2015, 12×75, £320, 92-93 Pts

segla(1)

The virtues of the 2015 vintage in Bordeaux cannot be overstated. In particular the village of Margaux produced what could be its finest vintage ever, collectively magnificent. Indeed, the great Second Growth Rauzan-Segla raised the bar in 2015, awarded 97 points from Neal Martin of Vinous Media, Lisa Perrotti-Brown of The Wine Advocate and James Suckling. Huge investment has been made into this leading Estate and one area in particular has been its second wine, Segla. Segla is made from a collection of satellite parcels to the main estate, combined with young vine plots.

Segla is universally considered one of the great second wines of Bordeaux and in 2015 they have produced their finest vintage ever. Martin awards Segla 2015 92 points, saying ‘Thinking of a second wine? Look no further.’ James Sucking awards it 92-93. In fact, Martin was so impressed by Segla 2015 that he included it in his assembled dream case of 2015s, which takes into consideration market prices and thereon the best buys of the vintage. We are delighted to offer Segla 2015 today direct from the Chateau at the brilliant price of £320 per case of 12. At £26.60 a bottle the value proposition is incredible, indeed the Price Over Points score (POP) equals the price of the bottle!

We believe the global cachet of Rauzan Segla and Segla will continue to rise over the next decade. In fact, at the time of the 1855 classification, the Estate was considered one of the truly great Second Growths. In 1994 the Estate was bought by the Wertheimer Family of Chanel, who have put in place a superb wine making team headed up by David Orr and John Kolasa of Chateau Latour. It is now maximising its full potential, while its luxury connection to Chanel has allowed it to strengthen its brand globally.

Segla 2015 has a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. It is released a few years after the Bordeaux campaign, once the Estate views it as ready for consumption. It is a prized release and one for those in the know. The 2015, along with the 2016 which will be released next year, are must own vintages, drinking beautifully now, yet capable of improving in bottle for a decade.
