Malescot-St-Exupery was one of the most popular wines of the 2015 en primuer campaign, selling out within days of its release. This represents further confirmation of the growing cachet of this outstanding Estate. As such, it is a good time to stock up on this Estate as the global brand continues its upward curve.

As you can see from the table below, Malescot-St-Exupery 2012 is offered at a 40% discount to the other leading vintages since 2005. In fact, this offers an equal POP score (price vs points) to the hugely in demand 2015 release. With two years in bottle already, this physical vintage is a strong buy, particularly as it enters its long drinking window next year.

Malescot-St-Exupery JS WA Price (12×75) Pop Score
2015 97-98 93-95 £370 26
2012 93 93 £345 26
2010 95 95 £570 38
2009 98 96 £640 40
2008 91 93 £440 34
2005 N/A 96 £820 51

The superb Third Growth Malescot-St-Exupery has for many years been a sleeping giant. In 1994, Jean Luc of the Zuger family took over the Estate, bringing in world famous oenologist Michel Rolland as a consultant. Since then it has gone from strength to strength fulfilling its great potential. Today the average age of the vines is 35 years and they produce less than 13,000 cases per year.

It is located in the centre of the village of Margaux, close to its fellow Third Growth, Chateau Palmer and of course Chateau Margaux itself. This commune was hugely successful in 2012; Palmer produced one of the wines of the vintage and Margaux was just behind. However, with Palmer and Margaux are priced at £1,650 and £3,300 respectively, Malescot St Exupery offers such an extremely attractive proposition at just £345 for a full case. It has been on a hot streak for a decade, competing with the leading wines of Bordeaux.

At £28.75, the 2012 offers remarkable value for money, a buying opportunity rarely seen among the leading Grand Crus of Bordeaux. Along with Rauzan Segla, Giscours and Brane Cantenac, Malescot St Exupery is producing its finest wines ever. It is time to take advantage of its upward trend!

Another great wine in this vintage, the 2012 Malescot offers up tremendous level of black fruits, charcoal and intense, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, sensational purity, low acidity and ripe tannins. It is full-bodied, stunning, multidimensional, and a compelling example of this vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2030+.
