We are delighted to announce the first major release from the highly anticipated 2008 Champagne vintage. Taittinger have just unveiled the 14th edition of their Collection Series, a highly collectable Champagne which features a different artist’s design on each release. Following in the footsteps of Mouton Rothschild, Taittinger Collection takes things a step further by incorporating the design into the whole bottle, resulting in extremely eye-catching releases.

Brazilian artist Sebastião Salgado has been commissioned to design the most recent limited edition label for Taittinger’s Brut Millesime 2008 vintage. This modern design features the image of a leopard captured in the Barab River Valley in Damaraland, Namibia. The bottle has also been designed in black with white writing in keeping with Salgado’s black and white photography. Subsequent editions have featured the work of famous artists such as the French surrealist André Masson and American pop artist Robert Rauschenberg. The most recent edition from the collection released back in 2011, was the 2002 vintage designed by Armadou Sow.

The excitement and anticipation around this new release has been feverish as the series enjoys a real following amongst collectors and Champagne lovers alike. The limited availability and increasing demand leads to healthy vintage premiums – the 1998, 10 years on has seen a 113% increase. As such, it pays to buy these special edition wines on release to take advantage of the attractive price appreciation.

Previous Taittinger Collections  Vintage Bottle Price
Sebastiao Salgado 2008 £120
Amadou Sow 2002 £160
Rauschenberg 2000 £150
Zao Wou Ki 1998 £255

Taittinger Brut Millésimé 2008 is blended from first press wines only and consists of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir grapes harvested mostly from the Grand Crus in Montagne de Reims and the borders of the Vallée de la Marne. While not yet scored, the 2008 vintage has received fantastic acclaim in a decade of great wines; 02, 04 & 06 are also superb Champagne vintages. As such, this is recommended both for drinking and as a collectable for investment.
