“Tua Rita is one of Tuscany’s leading properties… Simply put, the wines are not to be missed” Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

This morning we are delighted to be able to offer the two leading wines of Tua Rita, the legendary Redigaffi and one of the most undervalued gems from Italy, Guisto di Notri. These mark our first 2014 releases and could be the finest wines from the region in this vintage. Stefano Frascolla of Tua Rita proudly states that “We managed to produce something outstanding through severe selections of the best grapes.”  Weather conditions in 2014 were difficult in Tuscany, with cooler, wet weather through the growing season, however an exceptionally mild and dry September and early October helped create conditions for a surprisingly good vintage. In fact, in 2014 Tua Rita harvested 15 days later than their neighbours and greatly reduced their production in order to create a special wine for Redigaffi’s 20th anniversary: Redigaffi only produced 650 cases this year, compared to the average of nearly 900.

The result of this is that Redigaffi has been awarded a superb 95 points, to which Suckling says ‘A triumph for a difficult vintage in 2014. And the 20th vintage of this great pure merlot made. I am not sure I would wait on this one. Too delicious now’. The Guisto di Notri has been scored an incredible 95 points from Suckling, its highest ever, a remarkable achievement. Suckling vociferously remarks ‘Love tasting this with a real sexy character plus currants, hints of spice and cinnamon’. This is an incredibly high score and superb value for a wine which at release price is £180 per case of six, an amazing £30 per bottle.

Redigaffi has been awarded 100 points twice, once in 2000 by the Wine Advocate and 100 points from the Wine Spectator in 1997. Its acclaim is growing every year and is one of the perennially highest scoring wines in the world. It is fast becoming considered one of the leading 100% Merlots, in fact Isa Bal the Master Sommelier of the Fat Duck describes Redigaffi as ‘one of the top three Merlots in the world‘. Moreover and perhaps most interestingly, Redigaffi has recently become a darling in Asia and with such minuscule production, it will become extremely costly to secure Redigaffi in the coming years. James Suckling who lives in Asia, has stated that ‘The pure merlot, which is one of the hottest collectible wines in Asia, is pure magic with balance, richness and clarity.’

Tua Rita is most famous for Redgaffi, yet their greatness began and continues with their Bordeaux blend, Giusto di Notri. Tua Rita is one of Italy’s most exceptional craft winemakers and the standard-bearer for the now dozens of wineries that have come to populate the surrounding region. In 1992 the winery launched their first high end wine, Giusto di Notri. A classic ‘left-bank’ blend that appropriately frames the awesome terroir on the Tuscan coast. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines used in Giusto di Notri are grown on the higher plots where there is a greater pebble fraction, the Merlot, also used in Redigaffi is grown where the vineyards display more clay. Guisto di Notri is also made in minuscule quantity, less than 1,600 cases were made in 2014 and at this price point it is a must buy wine!

Tua Rita Redigaffi 2014

95 Points, James Suckling
Fantastic aromas of red pepper, chocolate, chili, and blueberry. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a beautiful length and balance. A triumph for a difficult vintage in 2014. And the 20th vintage of this great pure merlot made. I am not sure I would wait on this one. Too delicious now.

Tua Rita Giusto di Notri 2014

Love tasting this with a real sexy character plus currants, hints of spice and cinnamon. Full to medium body. Ripe tannins. Integrated and fine. Savory acidity. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 10% cabernet franc, and 10% merlot. Drink in 2018 but hard to wait.
